See more about this pub on WhatPub, CAMRA's national pub guide.
With up to three changing real ales on hand pump, this historic town centre family-friendly pub is worth visiting. In the front bar the warming stove and large recessed fireplace give it a sense of dating from the 18th century and the beamed and panelled back bar has a timeless quality. The large rear garden has a heated marquee with a live music stage, and the bench tables are popular in summer for enjoying a quiet drink in the sunshine. Customers are welcome to bring their own food at any time with plenty of takeaways nearby, plates and cutlery provided. Live music every Friday in the bar during the cooler months and outside in the marquee during summer. Its friendly atmosphere won it local CAMRA Bronze Pub of the Year 2019. Level access into the front lounge, and to the back bar and ladies WC via the side entry. One step between the two bars otherwise, and one step into gents WC. No adapted WCs. Cycles may be taken through the side entry to the back, ask at the bar if the door is bolted.
