With up to four ales on handpull, this historic town centre family-friendly pub is worth visiting. In the front bar, the warming stove and large recessed fireplace give it a sense of dating from the 18th century, and the back bar is where drinks are served. The large rear garden has an open marquee with a live music stage, and the bench tables are popular in summer for enjoying a quiet drink in the sunshine. Customers are welcome to bring their own food at any time, with plenty of takeaways nearby, plates and cutlery provided. Live music every Friday is in the bar during the cooler months and outside under cover during summer. Level access into the front lounge, and to the back bar via the side entry. One step between the two bars otherwise, and one step into the gents WC. No adapted WCs. Cycles may be taken through the side entry to the back, ask at the bar if the door is bolted.
